The Wine
Located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, where it is considered quite an institution, Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana is currently run by the fifth generation of the Hidalgo family and possesses more than 200 hectares of vineyards on the Balbaina and Miraflores estates, the best in the Jerez District.
The winery, barely 300 metres from the mouth of the River Guadalquivir, benefits from a maritime influence for maturing the wines, which leaves its mark upon the ageing and special characteristics of their range of Manzanillas, Amontillados and Olorosos.
The 'en rama' Finos or Manzanillas are wines that have been bottled without cold stabilisation, with very light filtration, avoiding as much as possible any treatment before bottling, so that there is very little difference between the wine tasted directly from the cask and what we encounter in the bottle.
By this means, the Manzanilla en Rama La Gitana allows us discover all the pureness of a perfectly crafted Manzanilla. From the cask to the glass, as they like to say in the winery itself.
100% Palomino Fino grapes matured in the winery's century-old soleras, plus the 12 or 13 years in 150 year-old American oak casks, confer on the Manzanilla en Rama La Gitana maximum expression that picks up all the cellar's nuances.
A straw-yellow colour and smelling of the sea, with complex and pungent aromas, revealing typical notes from its biological ageing: dried fruits and nuts, yeast, antique wood, herbs and salty whiffs. Fresh and light on the palate, unctuous and delicate too.
